Did you know that to make significant health gains, you can sweat in more places than just in the gym? Although you may immediately think of something else... in this case, we are talking about the sauna. A lot of studies have been coming out recently about the health benefits of sauna use, which is why we don't just see the sauna as a luxury bonus. But as a strategic tool for your recovery!

Strategic tools

The disposal of waste and the supply of building materials

The heat stimulates your blood flow, so that important nutrients reach your muscles faster and waste products are removed more effectively. This process supports a faster recovery of your body after physical exercise. Think of the sauna as a big cleaning crew for your bloodstream that takes out the mess and immediately delivers new building blocks.

Mental rest without distractions

It's the only place where your smartphone isn't welcome and you don't get any messages, simply because technology melts away there instantly. In the sauna, you are finally alone with your own thoughts again. This conscious rest reduces stress levels and improves focus after your visit.

Improved resistance by adapting to temperature changes

By alternately warming up your body and letting it cool down, you're giving your immune system a big workout. You train your resistance so well to temperature differences that that Dutch autumn storm won't do anything to you later.

It prevents dementia

Long-term studies show that regular sauna goers have a significantly lower risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The improved blood flow to the brain plays a crucial, protective role here. Think of it as a weekly fitness session for your brain.

It strengthens your heart

The heat causes your blood vessels to dilate and your heart rate to rise, which is comparable to a light cardio workout. Regular sauna use trains your cardiovascular system and can help lower blood pressure in the long term. The ultimate alternative if you don't like cardio!

It makes your skin healthier

The heat opens your pores and regulates sebum production, which ensures a natural cleansing of the skin. The result is better hydration and a fresh, healthy appearance. By opening your pores properly, you wash away all the dullness and come out with that coveted “post-sauna glow”.

It's good for your airways

The warm air helps to relax the airways and loosen stuck mucus, allowing you to breathe more freely. For people with mild respiratory problems, the humid or dry heat often provides immediate relief.

Enough reasons to add a regular visit to the sauna to your health routine, right?

Logically, you lose a lot of fluid after a long sauna session. So make sure you drink at least half a liter of water afterwards. After a longer sauna session (>15 min), it is wise to drink 1 liter and add electrolytes.
